NEWSIndia fast bowler Mohammed Shami says that India are in need of a leader in Tests, following Virat Kohli's lengthy stint as captain. Kohli stepped down as captain of the Test side following India's 1-2 series loss against South Africa.
"Of course, the team needs a leader (in Test cricket). Good that our first series (under the new captain) will be at home (against Sri Lanka next month), so familiarity with the conditions brings in some sort of a relief," he said speaking to Telegraph India.
However, Shami did not comment on who he thinks the next captain should be and instead said that he would much rather focus on his own bowling.
"I will be focusing more on how I fare and how the bowling unit performs as a whole. I'm really not thinking about who takes over the captaincy. We have Rohit (Sharma), while Ajinkya (Rahane) is there as well, but all that matters is the result," Shami said
Before the Test series against Sri Lanka, India take on West Indies in a three-match ODI and T20I series, starting February 6.
