Gujarat Titan’s stellar season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 continued after they defeated Rajasthan Royals by 58 runs in Ahmedabad on April 9 (Tuesday).
Batting first, GT scored a huge total of 217/6 in their 20 overs courtesy of a splendid innings from Sai Sudharsan and some good support in the middle order from Jos Buttler and Shahrukh Khan.
Sudharsan scored a brilliant 82 off 53 deliveries against RR, which was his fifth consecutive 50-plus score at the venue. With this, he became the second batter in IPL history after AB de Villiers to score five consecutive 50+ scores at one venue.
Sudharsan, who has scores of 74(41), 63(41), 49(36) and 5(9) this season, survived a really fiery spell from Jofra Archer at the top. Buttler and Shahrukh scored 36 each off 25 and 20 deliveries, respectively.
In the chase, Arshad Khan got Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mohammed Siraj got Nitish Rana to inflict early damage on RR’s batting. In the end, the overall quality of GT’s bowling was too high, as Prasidh Krishna, Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore picked seven wickets amongst them to kill RR’s chase. Only Shimron Heymyer (53 off 32) and Sanju Samson (41 off 28) were able to show some resistance while others kept succumbing to the pressure on RR.
With this fourth win, GT have eight points in five games. They not only have the most points amongst all ten teams, but also the highest net run-rate — 1.413.
