GT seem ready to defend their IPL title: Sanjay Manjrekar

The Titans, who have won two in a row, will hope to make it three when they take on KKR later today (April 9)

In their first-ever season in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gujarat Titans (GT) went all the way to claim their maiden title last year. They have started off on the right foot this time around too, having won both their matches in IPL 2023 so far. Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar believes with skipper Hardik Pandya and head coach Ashish Nehra creating a relaxed atmosphere, the players are able to play at their best, giving them a great chance to retain their title.

"Hardik is a successful captain because he does not take the game too seriously. Also, Ashish Nehra takes care of the tactical side and that is the reason why this team really seems to be playing as a unit," Manjrekar said on Star Sports.

"They proved it by winning the title last season and this season they beat CSK and confirmed that they are ready to defend their title."

GT started off their IPL 2023 campaign with an emphatic five-wicket victory over four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). They then went on to defeat Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. They will hope to keep their winning momentum going when they come up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) next on Sunday (April 9) in Ahmedabad.
