Gujarat Titans, while chasing a target of 244 to win, managed to get as far as 232 and lost the game by only 11 runs on March 25 (Tuesday) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during their IPL 2025 opener against Punjab Kings.
However, even after that loss, R Sai Kishore of the Titans said that his team getting to as far as 232 while chasing such a big target was one of the biggest positives for the team.
“I think we were on course. In such games, it is pretty easy to get away (distracted) because of such a big target and get folded for 150-160,” Sai Kishore said in the post-match press conference.
“The best part was that we still lost the game by only 12 runs [11 runs]. It's a long tournament, 14 games, and competing well is very important. And in this kind of chase, to fall short by just 12 runs is really positive. But having said that, we should have won the game,” added the left-arm spinner.
The Tamil Nadu captain, who is an integral part of a very experienced Gujarat Titans bowling lineup, said that they have all the necessary ingredients for a comeback in the next games and post their first win.
“We have bowlers who have played enough international games and I felt that we didn’t bowl our best and according to our plans. But everybody is a professional: Rashid is best in T20s, KG (Rabada) is best for his country and Prasidh and Siraj have represented our country. So they know what to do and in the next game, we will come back strong and execute our plans well,” he said.
