Gutted, but proud of the way we played: Craig Ervine

Zimbabwe now have no chance of making it to the World Cup following their 31-run loss against Scotland

With back-to-back defeats in the World Cup Qualifiers, Zimbabwe have crashed out of the tournament and now will not make it to the mega event in India later this year. They missed out on a place in 2019 after a three-run loss to the UAE and now fail to progress after a 31-run loss to Scotland.

Looking back at the tournament, Craig Ervine said that he is proud of the way his side played in the entire tournament.

"I thought we did well to restrict them to 230. But that first spell from Sole put us in a difficult position and we could not recover. We have played some good cricket through the tournament but fell short today. We had done really well and had we finished better (with the ball) then we would have been chasing 210," Ervine said after the match.

"Everybody is gutted, it is always nice to put the demons from 2018 behind us and had we won today, nobody would have been asking about that but unfortunately we didn't. I am extremely proud of the way boys have played right through the tournament, [Sean] Williams has been fantastic and we can take a lot of positives away."

Scotland need to beat the Netherlands on Thursday (July 6) to confirm their place in the World Cup. They have now defeated three full-members - Ireland, West Indies and Zimbabwe - in the tournament. An elated Scotland skipper Richie Berrington said that they will take confidence from this game going into the game against the Dutch.

"Credit to the way the lads played today, was our best performance. The way we came out and showed faith in the 2nd innings and get those early wickets was fantastic. Really proud of the boys. Our bowlers have been fantastic all tournament," Berrington said.

"Really pleased for [Chris] Sole to get the Player of the Match today. We knew there were going to be tough games and come to a stage where we would be in a must-win game. We did well today but it's a quick turnaround to the game against the Netherlands. We'll take a lot of confidence but it's going to be a tough game."
