Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) chased down a target of 102 in just 10 overs in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on May 29 (Thursday). This is now the fastest run chase (by balls remaining) in an IPL playoffs encounter.
Before tonight, the record belonged to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who chased down a target of 114 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with 57 deliveries to spare in the IPL 2024 final. RCB hunted down the target with 60 balls remaining, tormenting PBKS bowlers without any break.
After Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma shared six wickets between them and bowled PBKS out for 101 in 14.1 overs, Phil Salt walked out all guns blazing in the second innings. The England batter smoked 56* off 27 deliveries, studded with six fours and three sixes.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli (12 off 12), Mayank Agarwal (19 off 13) and Rajat Patidar (15* off 8) chipped in with decent cameos as RCB progressed through to the final, which will be played on June 3 (Tuesday) in Ahmedabad. They have made the final after nine years.
PBKS will now play the winner of the Eliminator between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 on June 1 (Sunday).
