Hardik Pandya entered an elite list of Indian bowlers as he equalled Ravichandran Ashwin as the player with the most wickets in multi-team events in the T20 format for India.
The record-breaking feat was achieved by the all-rounder during India’s Super 4 match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) in Dubai, UAE, on September 21 (Monday).
Bowling the first over of the game, the 31-year-old went for 29 runs in his three-over spell, but picked up the all-important wicket of Fakhar Zaman. With this, the right-arm pacer reached 38 wickets, which is the most in this format in multi-team events.
Former India spinner Ashwin too accumulated 38 scalps, although it came in just 30 innings, unlike Pandya, who got there in 33 innings.
In terms of the game, India registered a thundering six-wicket win in Dubai against Pakistan and began their Super 4 campaign in style.
When it comes to most wickets in the Asia Cup and World Cup (ODI) combined, Mohammad Shami is at the leaderboard as he has 80 wickets in total.
