Hardik Pandya receives one-match ban for slow over-rate

As a result, the MI captain will miss the first match of the next season, regardless of the team he plays for

Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya has been banned for one match following his team's slow over-rate against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 17 (Friday) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. MI have already played all their games this season, and hence, Hardik will miss the first game of the next season, regardless of the team he plays for.

This was MI's third over-rate-related offence this season. As a result, Hardik has also been fined INR 30 lakh and banned for one match. The rest of the playing XII, including the impact player, have been fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever is lesser.

the 18-run loss against LSG on Mat 17 (Friday) ended MI's disappointing campaign in which they finished bottom of the table having picked up just four wins.

After losing their first three games, it looked like MI would bounce back in the competition, having won three of their next four matches. However, they managed to win just one of their remaining seven fixtures.

It was a gruelling season for Hardik, who finished with 216 runs at 18, along with a strike rate of 143.04. With the ball, he picked up 11 wickets from 12 innings at an economy rate of 10.75.

Hardik has been picked in the Indian squad as the vice-captain for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will get underway from June 1 in the US and West Indies. India's first match of the tournament will be against Ireland in New York on June 5.
