Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf will not take part in the remainder of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four contest against India as he felt a "little discomfort in his right flank" On Sunday (September 10) in Colombo. He will not take part in the game as a precautionary measure. He was taken for an MRI scan, but it showed no tear.
"He was subsequently taken for a precautionary MRI, which revealed no tear. He is under the observation of the team's medical panel," the PCB said in a statement.
Pakistan, as a result, will be a tad thin in their bowling department. They have Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah as their frontline pacers, while Faheem Ashraf, too, could chip in with a few medium pacers. Along with Shadab Khan, they will look to Iftikhar Ahmed and Salman Agha to roll their arms over to make up for Rauf's overs.
After the play was washed out on Sunday, the match trickled into the reserve day on Monday (September 11), yet the rains showed no signs of relenting.
Rauf bowled five overs but did not pick up a single wicket as India got off to a flying start, thanks to fifties from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Rauf has been in fine form in the Asia Cup, having picked up nine wickets in four matches so far, the joint-highest in the tournament.
India ended the day on 147 for 2 with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul at the crease.
