The Indian Women’s side broke new ground at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 9 (Wednesday) as they won a bilateral T20I series in England for the first time in their history.
Back in 2006, a Mithali Raj-led Indian side had beaten England in a one-off T20I in Derby, but before yesterday, the team had lost all three bilateral series in the country (2+ matches), with the most recent being a 2-1 defeat in 2022.
However, now, India have scripted history with a game to go, taking an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. After comprehensive wins in both the first and second matches (97 runs & 24 runs respectively), India chased in the fourth T20I and thrashed the hosts once again, knocking down 127 with three overs and six wickets to spare.
Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav (2/15) was the pick of the bowlers, and she deservedly bagged the Player of the Match award for setting up the win. With the bat, Smriti Mandhana (32) and Shafali Verma (31) set up the win, while Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten 24 and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s 26 saw the team over the line.
The fifth T20I will be played at Edgbaston on July 12 (Saturday). Then, the three-match ODI series will commence on July 16 (Wednesday) at Southampton.
