Newly appointed England captain Harry Brook has rated playing for England above all, saying that he would any day take losing a little bit of franchise cricket money (from IPL) over representing the Three Lions.
Speaking at his unveiling as the next English white-ball captain in Headingley on April 9 (Tuesday), Brook said, “I just want to play cricket for England, represent my country like I have over the last few years, and hopefully have a big impact on the side moving forward."
"Franchise cricket can almost take a step back for a little while. At the end of the day, I enjoy playing cricket for England more than anything else, so, yeah, to lose a little bit of money here and there, I'd take that any day to play for England,” added the 26-year-old.
Brook, after being picked by the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the auction, left the IPL due to a busy cricket calendar. He was later banned for two years as per the IPL's new rules, whereby a player bought in an auction cannot leave the team midway without any injury.
Although he has been named white-ball captain, promotion from his previous position as deputy to Jos Buttler for Brook, the number two-ranked Test batter, winning Ashes 2025 remains at the top of his wish list.
“I know I've taken over the white-ball captaincy, but the Ashes is still the pinnacle of cricket for me," said the Yorkshire man on what he would prefer the most between lifting the 2026 T20 World Cup or the 2025 Ashes Down Under.
