Harshit Rana, the leading pacer of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), is missing their former mentor Gautam Gambhir. The defending champions had to let go of their coach Gambhir and captain Shreyas Iyer.
Gambhir joined the Indian national team as head coach and took Abhishek Nayar with him as well. However, Nayar, after being removed from his job as the Indian team’s assistant coach, has joined KKR.
But according to Harshit, the aura that Gambhir brought to the dressing room is still missing in the Kolkata side’s camp.
“Our support staff is basically the same. Abhishek Nayar is back too, but the thrill factor that GG brought in is missing, that’s what I personally feel I miss,” Rana said on April 28 (Monday) in the pre-match press conference before KKR’s clash against Delhi Capitals in New Delhi on April 29.
“You also know that he has an aura with which he takes the team along. I was just referring to that,” added the Delhi-born pacer.
Delhi Capitals’ batting consultant Kevin Pietersen was mindful of the fact that his team is vulnerable after loss against RCB at home and wants the players to know that even without having had their perfect game, they have done pretty well.
"We haven't quite hit our perfect game yet as a team. We haven't really played that complete game. For us to be sitting where we're sitting with 12 points knowing that we actually haven't really hit our straps in all departments is a good thing. We haven't played our perfect match yet, and I do believe that it's coming,” he said.
