On the second day of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) surprised everyone when they went all guns blazing for Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad. The five-time IPL winners shelled INR 10 crore to acquire the services of the left-arm spinner, making him one of the much-anticipated players of IPL 2025.
However, former CSK star Subramaniam Badrinath has his reservations and doubts over the Afghanistan wrist spinner, stating that CSK might have over paid for his services. Over the last two IPL seasons, the 20-year-old has struck 24 times, including 16 in IPL 2023.
“Noor Ahmad, he’s definitely an overseas player to watch out for. But, I have my worry. Yes, he’s a wrist spinner; yes, he’s an X-factor player, but can he justify his INR 10 crore price tag? I have my worries over that. Will he play all the matches? Will it be as consistent for CSK? Only time will answer that. He’s gone for a price more than Ashwin,” Badrinath said on his YouTube channel ‘Cric It with Badri’.
The 44-year-old also opined that CSK might go with a three-man spin attack and even compared the Men in Yellow to the Men in Blue, who played four spinners in the victorious Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.
“CSK have a three-man spin attack, and if you remember, a four-man spin attack only worked for India in Champions Trophy 2025. CSK will also go spin-oriented, but my question remains: will he give dividends for the price.”
Badrinath also questioned whether the 20-year-old’s lack of three-dimensional skillset might come to haunt him.
“I still have reservation over his place in the side. He doesn’t have a whole lot of batting or fielding, so he’s very one-dimensional in that aspect. Maybe they could use him as an impact player, who knows?”
