The Indian men’s team won the Asia Cup by defeating Pakistan in the final, but are yet to receive the trophy after refusing to accept it from the hands of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi, who had taken the trophy with him back to the hotel and then the ACC office after the final, is in no mood to budge and has already said that he has done nothing wrong.
“Let me make it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologised to the BCCI nor will I ever do so,” Naqvi said, after reporters asked him if he had apologised to the BCCI after the trophy controversy.
Naqvi also remained adamant on his stance that if India wish to get the Asia Cup trophy, they have to get it from him personally from the ACC office.
“As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day, and I am still ready now," Naqvi said on X.
"If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me.”
Notably, this statement has come after BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla and Treasurer Ashish Shelar attended a recent ACC meeting where no resolution was reached on the handing over of the trophy. As per the reports, Shukla had told Naqvi in that meeting that the trophy isn’t his to keep and it should be returned to the BCCI.
