The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will go on for now, confirmed its Chairman Arun Dhumal on May 9 (Friday), a day after the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off midway in the wake of escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
"We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven't received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind," Dhumal was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
"Yes, it is on as of now, but obviously it is an evolving situation and any decision will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind," he added.
The next IPL match, on May 9 (Friday) in Lucknow, is also in North India, which has become a vulnerable zone, especially after the escalation in tension between the two countries.
The players of Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings will return to their bases via special train from Pathankot, 85 kilometres away from Dharamsala, as airports in all nearby areas to the Himachal Pradesh city have been closed due to border tensions.
Apart from two matches in Lucknow, a game each in Delhi and Jaipur are the only four matches remaining in North and North-West India. All the remaining matches are in East, South and South West.
