Chinnaswamy Stadium denied hosting rights for Women's World Cup 2025: Reports
The Karnataka government has denied permission to host the World Cup games at the premier venue
The Stampede that occurred during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s(RCB) victory celebration outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium has had a cascading effect on the stadium hosting the prestigious ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. As of now, as per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, the police office or the Karnataka government haven’t given any permission to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), which can deny Chinnaswamy the chance to host the World Cup games.
The Chinnaswamy Stadium was awarded four games for the tournament and also the final (if Pakistan didn’t make it). Now, it seems like none of the games will be held here, and amidst this developing situation, the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram has emerged as the front-runner to host the Bengaluru games.
The KSCA has already missed the August 10 deadline set by BCCI to get all the required approvals. According to ICC rules, the local association has to hand over the stadium a month prior to the ICC so that they can work on the pitches and organisation. As a result, the BCCI and ICC will now have to decide upon a different venue for the World Cup within a week.
Notably, the Thiruvananthapuram stadium is already hosting the warm-up games on September 25 and 27. So, it would also need to be prepared and made ready for the competition accordingly if the matches are to be shifted there eventually. A decision can be expected very soon on these developments.
