It was a frustrating start to the first day of the third Test in Brisbane on December 14, with rain playing spoilsport, not once but twice during the first session. After India won the toss and opted to bowl, they were met with a rain break in the sixth over of the innings, with a drizzle stopping play.
India were the happier of the two teams to walk off, as they could put things together. It was evident after they returned, with the Indian pacers hitting the right channel, making run-scoring extremely tough for the Australian openers.
Before the first rain break, the two openers had helped Australia to race off to 19 in the sixth over, but after the rain break, they could only score nine runs in the next eight overs of play. Even India’s third pacer - Akash Deep - was on point in his spell, bowling two maidens in his first three overs.
Just when Indian bowlers were finding their momentum, a heavy downpour ensured that no more cricket could be played in the first session of the day, throwing a spanner in the works of the away side.
