Sri Lanka's spin-bowling great Rangana Herath is the front-runner to replace Daniel Vettori as Bangladesh's bowling coach, BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told Cricbuzz on Monday.
"Herath is one of the candidates and he is certainly a front-runner for the post," Akram said on Monday. "We would try our best to finalise it before the Zimbabwe tour as Australia will be touring Bangladesh just after the Zimbabwe tour with New Zealand and England following suit."
India's Sairaj Bahatule and Pakistan's Saeed Ajmal are the other candidates for the post.
Vettori was unable to rejoin Bangladesh's team on a regular basis due to the pandemic which left the post of spin bowling coach vacant. Local coach Sohel Islam, who was with the team during the two-match Test tour of Sri Lanka, will not be able to join the team for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe after opting for paternal leave.
