Here's What Happened When Australian Pacer Broke Yuvraj Singh's Room Table During 2011 World Cup
The pacer almost messed up an entire party hosted by Yuvraj before pulling off a stunning move
More often than not, when former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh is involved, something or another awkward thing definitely happens. Former Australian cricketer John Hastings narrated one such incident which took place way back in 2011 during the ODI World Cup in India.
It was during a party organised by Yuvraj that Hastings managed to pull off something extraordinary.
“It was one of those where we’d obviously had a few and, I think you know, we’d obviously been invited up to Yuvi’s (Yuvraj Singh) room and walked in and there was a suite. It was massive. It was as big as my house over here,” Hastings built the narrative around the story on LiSTNR sport, as quoted by the Indian Express.
“I was fiddling around with the laptop trying to get some of my playlist on, and I sat on the edge of this…. There was a ledge that had a phone on there. There was a laptop, I sat on it and boom! Off it came down on the floor and I just remember everyone just stopped and looked and went silent, dead quiet, pin could drop,” added the man, who played one Test, 29 ODIs and nine T20Is for Australia between 2010 and 2017.
To make the situation normal, the Australian pacer pulled one trick out of his hat. He said, “I just went, ‘What am I going to do here? I’m a young kid.’ It’s Yuvraj Singh’s room. There are so many people here. There’s probably Bollywood celebrities everywhere.”
“I just went, ‘Right, stay calm,’ and I went to the phone. And there was no one at the end of the line. So, I picked up the phone. I said, ‘Reception,’ yep. John Hastings, I just want to make sure that there’s a bit of damage to Mr. Singh’s room. I’ll make sure I fix it up. I’m in the room such and such. And everyone was like, ‘Well done, mate. That’s brilliant.’ And everyone just kicked on, played on,” recalled the almost two-meter-tall Victoria legend.
But what happened after the call? Hastings, who did not play even a single game in the 2011 World Cup, revealed, “I actually went down to reception to make sure that I could rectify the situation, but there was never another word. So, happy days. I didn’t have to pay for any damage, and we had a really good night.”
Hastings, who could not give his best in international cricket, was a domestic legend, contributing both with bat and ball and finishing with 535 wickets and 4383 runs in 294 matches across formats.
