With the final retention list set to be released on November 15 (Saturday), there is a buzz around KL Rahul's future with the Delhi Capitals (DC). According to reports, the India wicketkeeper-batter is expected to make the switch to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Incidentally, Rahul is currently batting at the Eden Gardens in the first Test against South Africa, and it could very well be his home ground in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
"KL Rahul’s arrival at Kolkata would be a massive boost for KKR. His technique and temperament are perfectly suited for the Knight Riders’ plans," renowned expert Aakash Chopra said during the ongoing South Africa Test.
"This trade is likely to happen soon, given the talks are in the final phase. KKR sees Rahul as a linchpin to strengthen their batting lineup," former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim added.
Rahul was bought for INR 14 crore at the IPL 2025 auction by DC, and finished as their leading run-getter with 539 runs at a strike rate of nearly 150, but his side missed out on the playoffs despite getting off to an excellent start.
While many thought Rahul would lead DC, the reins were handed over to Axar Patel. Ajinkya Rahane led KKR last season after Shreyas Iyer moved to Punjab Kings (PBKS). Rahul's move to KKR could potentially see him take over as the captain.
KKR have revamped their backroom staff, with Abhishek Nayar taking over as head coach, while Shane Watson and Tim Southee have further bolstered KKR's backroom.
