With a nervy two-wicket win in the third One-Day International (ODI) in Wellington on November 1 (Saturday), New Zealand have completed a 3-0 whitewash over England. Chasing 223, New Zealand rode on some useful contributions from Devon Conway (34), Rachin Ravindra (46), Daryl Mitchell (44) and an unbeaten 30-run stand between Zachery Foulkes (11*) and Blair Tickner (18*) to see them home.
With this win, New Zealand have registered an ODI series whitewash over England for the first time in 42 years. The last time the Blackcaps achieved this feat was back in 1983 under Geoff Howarth's captaincy.
Hence, Mitchell Santner became the first captain to lead New Zealand to a series clean sweep over England since then. Harry Brook, on the other hand, joins the unwanted list of being the first England captain to suffer this fate since Bob Willis.
In this series, New Zealand chased down England's totals in all three matches. They won the first ODI in Mount Maunganui by four wickets and followed that up with a five-wicket victory in Hamilton. They finished the job in Wellington with a closely fought win.
Before the ODIs, England won the three-match T20I series, which included two washed-out games, 1-0.
