NEWSSouth Africa demolished the Indians in what a complete performance, orchestrated by the smarts that required to beat a world-class side. While India couldn't compete, despite having most of their first-choice players available, what caught the eye was the fact that South Africa upped the game in every match to put the two-time ODI champions behind.
Temba Bavuma, the South Africa skipper, was really proud of the way his side played both ODI and the Test series and stated that they perhaps gained some more fans with this series win.
"Got a bit crazy at the end. Probably the complacency got to us. Guys tried a couple of things that didn't come off. Very satisfying, mission accomplished for us. Many people didn't give us much of a chance. Hope through our performances, we've been able to get a couple of supporters. Making good strides as a team. Challenge is to get better and better," Bavuma said in the post-match presentation.
Bavuma himself was at the centre of many memorable performances this season apart from leading from the front. The all-format player has come a long way from the time of the "getting start and getting out" phase of his career and has started to build a niche for himself. The Cape Province player commented that this was the most challenging series he has ever been a part of.
"This was a big challenge, a big obstacle in our journey. To come out the way we did - winning Tests, winning ODIs convincingly will do a world of good. What pleased me most - if you look at the Test series, feel like it's the hardest series I've been part of. Indian bowlers ask questions regularly. Even in the field the intensity. Physically we've been challenged - it's been very hot the last couple of weeks. These conditions weren't exactly South African like - more like the subcontinent," the skipper added.
