5 moments that shaped DC's first win over LSG in IPL history

Kuldeep Yadav was the Player of the Match for his match-winning figures of 3/20

Khaleel 🤝 Early Wickets

Khaleel Ahmed continued to be Delhi Capitals’ best bet to pick early wickets. He dismissed Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal in his three-over spell with the new ball. Both batters were out LBW against deliveries seaming in. With his tally moving to five wickets now, he is the joint-highest wicket-taker in the powerplay this season alongside Trent Boult.

Kuldeep wreaks Lucknow

Kuldeep Yadav showcased what Delhi have been missing in the last three games. His return to the bowling attack, in the seventh over, led to Lucknow’s downfall. Within his first nine balls, he had dismissed Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul which forms a major chunk of LSG’s batting.

Lucknow Super Giants slid from 66/2 to 94/7, as a result. Kuldeep won the Player of the Match award for his 3/20.

Badoni steps up

Ayush Badoni has coped with some criticism of late. He had only 29 runs in the last four games. Today (April 12), however, walking in to bat at 77/5, he carried the team to 167/7, scoring an unbeaten 55 off 35 balls. He found able support from Arshad Khan with whom Badoni forged a record stand.

Fraser-McGurk shines on debut

Jake Fraser-McGurk justified the hype around his much-awaited debut. His first two scoring shots were sixes. He slowed down in between but recovered with three consecutive sixes off Krunal Pandya in the 13th over. He scored 55 off 35 balls (exactly what Badoni scored) and ensured that Delhi are ahead of the asking rate.

The middle-overs contrast

The innings progression tells how the middle-overs broke the chase in DC’s favor.

With the bat, Prithvi Shaw and Fraser-McGurk added 39 off 21 balls for the second wicket. Fraser-McGurk then combined with Rishabh Pant to add another 77 runs from only 46 balls. That is 116 runs from 67 balls (run-rate 10.5) in a run-chase where the asking rate was 8.4. Pant scored 41 off 24, while Shaw contributed 32 off 22.
