Rohit Sharma might have retired from Test cricket, but he doesn’t seem to have lost his influence on the national set-up. The 38-year-old is said to have played a crucial role in T Dilip getting reappointed as India’s fielding coach after being removed in April, as his contract had ended.
Dilip, along with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, were shown the door in the aftermath of India’s 1-3 loss in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Australia.
However, new reports have surfaced that say Rohit requested head coach Gautam Gambhir and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reconsider their decision and get Dilip back in the mix.
“The Hyderabad-based coach, who previously served under Rahul Dravid and later for close to a year under Gautam Gambhir, has been offered a one-year temporary extension,” Cricbuzz wrote in one of its reports.
Dilip will now join the Indian team led by Shubman Gill for the five-match Test series in England, starting June 20.
Dilip, who is from Hyderabad, became famous for his fielding Medal ceremony during the 2023 World Cup.
