HUGE Controversy As Umpires DENY CSK, Brevis DRS; Ball-Tracking Shows Not Out

The umpires DID NOT allow the CSK batter to go for the review as they claimed that Brevis had run out of time.

A Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium seldom comes without controversy, and in the H2H clash between the two teams today, a huge controversy erupted in the 17th over of the chase.

Lungi Ngidi dismissed the set Ayush Mhatre, and that brought in the in-form Dewald Brevis. Ngidi bowled a rank full toss to his countryman on the first ball, and Brevis missed it completely as the ball rapped him on the pads. The on-field umpire Nitin Menon did not take a second to raise his finger as Brevis was given out LBW.

Now, after a slight delay, following a lengthy discussion, Brevis decided to go up for the review and here’s where controversy erupted: the umpires DID NOT allow the CSK batter to go for the review as they claimed that he had run out of time.

What made things bizarre was that there was no timer shown on the screen. There have been previous instances of teams running out of time, but this was a freak incident where there was no timer shown on-screen (or on the big screen) to validate the umpires’ decision.

Both Jadeja and Brevis were baffled by the call and argued with the on-field umpires, but Brevis was eventually sent back and asked to leave.

CSK will have every right to feel infuriated, as it was only a couple of nights ago that the umpires allowed Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians (MI) to go up for a review even though the timer had run out. The clock read ‘0’ when Rohit went up for the review, but MI were still allowed to use the review.

To add insult to injury, ball-tracking showed umpires call on impact and would have gone on to miss the stumps. Yellow and green. A massive misjudgment on the non-striker Jadeja’s part, certainly; he should have immediately signalled Brevis to go for the review.
