In what comes as a huge worry for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of the playoffs, Tim David, arguably their player of the season, walked off the field in the first innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after pulling his hamstring.
David was guarding the deep square leg boundary when a flick from Ishan Kishan was threatening to race to the boundary. David got to the ball quickly, stopped the boundary and saved three runs, but, in the process, ended up blowing his hamstring. He signalled to the RCB physio immediately that he had hurt his hamstring and walked off the field instantaneously.
RCB would be praying that the injury is not serious. For one, David has been the best finisher in IPL 2025, hammering 186 off just 96 balls at a strike rate of 193.8.
But more worryingly, RCB already will not have Jacob Bethell and Lungi Ngidi for the playoffs (international duty) while there is no clarity over the availability of Josh Hazlewood, who is recovering from a shoulder niggle.
We might get more clarity over the seriousness of David’s injury during the second innings of the RCB vs SRH clash. Should the Australian not come out to bat, it might mean that he has an injury that’s serious enough to possibly rule him out of the remainder of the tournament.
