'I Haven't Been Able to Have Any Input on Squad': Trott Left FRUSTRATED With ACB

Jonathan Trott expressed his frustration with the Afghanistan Cricket Board

On October 25 (Saturday), Afghanistan's head coach, Jonathan Trott, expressed his frustration with Afghanistan cricketing board over his lack of input in the squad selection. Trott dropped a bombshell, stating that he hasn’t communicated with the chief selector.

“The sad thing for me is that I haven’t been able to have any input on the squad. I haven’t had any communication with the top management of the ACB or with the chief selector,” Trott told Zimbabwe’s news outlet Sportscast.

Trott also revealed that the repercussions of this could mean that he could leave his post as Afghanistan’s head coach. The former England batter also expressed in plain words that the lack of communication has cost the national team several times in the past.

“I’ve been trying to get hold of them for the last couple of weeks. I have also been trying to reach the chairman, but I haven’t received any response or feedback on the selection process. This lack of communication hasn’t just affected this squad, but also the previous few squads since the Asia Cup didn’t go our way. There has been no meaningful contact at all,” he added.

Over the last few months, Afghanistan’s record too hasn’t been the best, getting out in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2025 while crumbling under pressure in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe.

With Trott’s contract running through till the end of the T20 World Cup, the Englishman expressed that he might have to assess whether he would continue in this role after his contract ends.

“Well, I don’t know. I would like to open up communication with the board. I have been told that my tenure runs until the T20 World Cup, which is only a couple more months away. After that, I will need to assess whether the job description or responsibilities of the head coach have changed,” Trott said.
