NEWSMinutes before the start of Day 3, Team India were dealt with a severe blow as Wriddhiman Saha complained of stiffness in his neck. As a result, the 37-year old was unable to take the field, causing a last-minute change. Srikar Bharat, the other wicket-keeper in the side was asked to keep wickets in the ongoing Test against New Zealand in Kanpur.
In conversation with spin duo Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, Bharat revealed he had only 12 minutes to prepare for the game. "I was doing my morning routine, and then the support staff told me to get ready. I only had 12 minutes to get set for the game," he said.
On a pitch that had variable bounce with the odd ball keeping low and one or two climbing up from the spot, Bharat endured a perfect day behind the stumps. The 28-year old held on to a faint edge from Will Young, which kept low to produce a breakthrough and then dismissed Ross Taylor with another superb catch.
Talking about Young's dismissal, he said, "I knew the time I walked in that the ball is keeping low, so the best chance is to be behind the ball and keep making adjustments."
