Yash Dhull, former India U-19 captain and once thought to be the successor of Virat Kohli, carrying the baton of being a U-19 World Cup-winning captain from Delhi, is having one of the best seasons as a batter in the Delhi Premier League.
The 23-year-old has already struck two centuries and a fifty in just five games of DPL 2025. He is currently at the third position in the top run-getters chart behind Arpit Rana and Sarthak Ranjan of East Delhi Riders and North Delhi Strikers.
Dhull, a Central Delhi Kings player, was not the same last year as he struggled big time to get going, scoring only 93 runs in four games. But this season is different as he struck a century in his first game.
What is more inspiring is the fact that Dhull has made this sensational comeback in the DPL after undergoing minor heart surgery in 2024.
Talking about the surgery, Dhull, in a chat with PTI, said, “That incident helped me a lot because I got to know what all I could do… No one was standing with me at that time. I knew I was alone, and I had no choice but to make a comeback. I just kept myself mentally strong.
“I had confidence in myself. I knew I would play again one day and I knew how to make it and how I would make it,” added the right-handed batter from Delhi, who scored a ton against North Delhi Strikers on August 16 (Saturday).
Dhull, who had a decent Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, scoring 444 runs at an average of 49 with two tons and a half-century, said that he is not thinking about playing for India at the moment.
“It is very important for me to stay in the present because I have made this mistake earlier. I used to think more about the future, I used to think about the past,” he said.
With at least five more matches coming his way, Dhull would be looking to make the most of the DPL 2025 and secure an Indian Premier League contract.
