In Match 8 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between England and Afghanistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Ibrahim Zadran became the eighth batter to score six centuries in his first 35 ODIs. Pakistan’s Babar Azam is the only one with seven hundreds in his first 35 ODIs.
Shubman Gill, Hashim Amla, Dawid Malan, Imam-Ul-Haq, Daryl Mitchell, Quinton de Kock and Upul Tharanga are the other seven batters with six hundreds. One of the best ODI batters of all time, if not the best, Virat Kohli had only four tons in his first 35 ODIs.
Afghanistan got off to a terrible start against England, losing Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah in the first nine overs. Zadran, however, looked compact from the word go and put on 103 runs for the fourth wicket alongside Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (40 off 67).
Zadran got to his fifty off 64 deliveries but then decided to shift gears, hitting his next 50 runs off only 42 deliveries. Zadran also becomes the fourth player to hit multiple hundreds in ICC ODI events aged 24 or lower, after Rachin Ravindra, Sachin Tendulkar and Tharanga.
Zadran scored a stunning hundred against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The right-hander is the only Afghanistan batter with a hundred in the ODI World Cup. And now, he has become the first centurion for his country in the Champions Trophy.
