Afghanistan have roped in former Pakistan skipper Younis Khan as a mentor for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The now 47-year-old was earlier part of Afghanistan’s setup in 2022 as a batting coach.
During his playing days, Younis was a pillar of Pakistan’s batting strength, with over 10,000 runs in the longest format, including a career-best 313. It was Younis who led Pakistan to their first T20 World Cup title back in 2009.
"ACB has assigned former experienced top order Pakistani player Younis Khan as Mentor for Champions Trophy 2025. He (Younis) will join the team before the event starts in Pakistan," Sayeed Naseem Sadat, the spokesman of ACB, confirmed to Cricbuzz on Wednesday..
While not directly involved with Pakistan cricket, Younis was, as recently as last year, part of the Peshawar Zalmi backroom staff and was also head coach of Bangla Tigers, an Abu Dhabi T10 franchise.
