This is the first time Afghanistan will be featuring in the ICC Champions Trophy. Afghanistan, who impressed everyone in the 2023 ODI World Cup and then qualified for the semis of the 2024 T20 World Cup, will commence their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against South Africa at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 21.
Hashmatullah Shahidi and Co. are placed in Group B alongside South Africa, Australia and England. Since the last World Cup in India, Afghanistan have played 14 ODIs and won eight of those games, even defeating a team like the Proteas twice.
Most of the names in the Afghanistan squad are certain starters, but a couple of players will have to fight for their spots.
