With India spending ample time in Dubai during the tournament and given the strength of their spin department, they are hot favourites to win this match. their batters, too, have fired in the tournament, which also gives them an edge. New Zealand, on the other hand, lost their only fixture at the venue to India in the Champions Trophy group stages, but they, too, are a formidable side who should not be taken lightly. The match is expected to be played at the same venue as India vs Pakistan. Batting first would be the ideal way to go, but the team doing so should put up at least 270-280 on the board to have a chance.
Virat Kohli has been in excellent form in the tournament, having scored 217 runs at 72.33, including a fifty and a century in four innings so far. It would be daft to look past him. Moreover, he averages over 57 against New Zealand in ODIs, making him a massive wicket for the opposition.
Matt Henry picked up a fifer in the previous match against India in Dubai and is certainly a player Rohit Sharma's men will be wary of. However, with an injury cloud hovering over him, it could very well be Mitchell Santner, who, with his guile and variations, could trouble the batters. They have picked up 17 wickets between them in the tournament so far.
It has been even-steven between pacers and spinners in Dubai in the tournament so far, as both have picked up 30 wickets apiece. The spinners, though, have been a little economical, conceding 4.8 an over compared to the pacers' 5.4. However, the fast bowlers have struck more regularly, picking up a wicket every 28.7 runs and 32.1 deliveries apart. The corresponding numbers for the spinners are 35.2 and 44.2, respectively.
It is expected to be a pleasant day in Dubai, with temperatures hovering between 27 to 30 degrees Celsius. However, there is a slight chance of rain, but it will not last long enough to be washed out or for the overs to be reduced. Expect a full game this Sunday.
