A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official has lashed out at the BCCI after reports emerged that India captain Rohit Sharma will not travel to Pakistan for the opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan are the hosts of the eight-team event, but given the tension between the two nations, India will play all their matches, including the final (if they qualify), in Dubai.
Moreover, reports have emerged that the Indian players will not wear the 'Pakistan' on their logo. The teams usually have the name of the hosts on the jersey below their logo. It is safe to say that PCB is unhappy with these developments. "BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan," a PCB official told IANS.
"They don't want to send their captain [to Pakistan] for the opening ceremony, now there are reports that they don't want the host nation's [Pakistan] name printed on their jersey. We believe that the world governing body [ICC] will not let this happen and support Pakistan."
India and Pakistan clashed in the final of the Champions Trophy last time around in 2017, where the latter lifted the trophy. The two sides will clash in the 2025 edition on February 23 in Dubai.
