In the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai on March 9 (Sunday), India’s seamer Mohammed Shami registered the second-worst bowling figures in the final of an ICC ODI event (ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy).
The 34-year-old, who has a phenomenal record in ICC events, had his worst game in the ICC event, registering figures of 1/74 in nine overs - economy rate of 8.2). Former India pacer Javagal Srinath (0/87 vs Australia in the 2003 ODI World Cup final) is the only one who has conceded more runs than Shami in the final.
That’s not it; this is also Shami’s most expensive outing in an ICC encounter. Before this, Shami leaked 69 runs in 10 overs against England during the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Shami looked completely off-colour from the start of the innings. The right-armer gave away 30 runs in his first five overs and then leaked 44 runs off his last four overs at the death.
New Zealand managed 251 runs in their 50 overs, with almost 30 percent of those runs coming against Shami in his nine overs.
