ICC lifts Sri Lanka Cricket’s suspension

The board was earlier suspended for being in serious breach of its obligations as an ICC member

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) finally has some good news from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding their suspension. “The ICC Board has today lifted the suspension of SLC with immediate effect”, announced a news statement by the SLC.

The statement also states the reason for which it was suspended in November. To quote, “SLC was suspended in November for being in serious breach of its obligations as an ICC Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.”

After monitoring the situation on a regular basis since the suspension, the board found SLC no longer in breach of any obligation.

Notably, the ongoing Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa was originally scheduled to happen in Sri Lanka but was later transferred due to the ICC suspension.
