Ahead of the much-awaited ODI World Cup in India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) have named 20 match officials for the league stage. The list includes 16 umpires and four match referees, with 12 of them being from the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires.
They are Christopher Gaffaney (New Zealand), Kumar Dharmasena (Sri Lanka), Marais Erasmus (South Africa), Michael Gough (England), Nitin Menon (India), Paul Reiffel (Australia), Richard Illingworth (England), Richard Kettleborough (England), Rodney Tucker (Australia), Joel Wilson (West Indies), Ahsan Raza (Pakistan), and Adrian Holdstock (South Africa).
ICC will name the umpires for the knock-out stages of the competition in the due course of time. Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid (Bangladesh), Paul Wilson (Australia), Alex Wharf (England) and Chris Brown (New Zealand) round up the 16 umpires.
Dharmasena, Erasmus and Tucker, who were part of the 2019 World Cup final between England and New Zealand, will most likely keep their place in the final. Aleem Dar from Pakistan will be the only umpire to miss out on the event, announcing his retirement earlier in March.
Jeff Crowe (New Zealand), Andy Pycroft (Zimbabwe), Richie Richardson (West Indies) and Javagal Srinath (India) will form the four-man match official list.
ICC also announced that Dharmasena and Menon will be the umpires for the opener on October 5 between New Zealand and England in what will be a repeat of the 2019 final.
