The controversies are never-ending ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) final, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) preparing two pitches for the final. While several images and tweets circulated showed the green pitch that could be on offer between the two sides, ICC’s preparation of the second pitch is a precautionary measure.
According to Cricbuzz reports, given the ongoing oil protest and disruptions in London, the apex cricketing board’s decision has taken the action as caution. The report also added that ICC’s altered playing conditions meant that a second pitch could come into play in case there is an emergency.
"We are preparing for all eventualities to ensure a conclusive outcome for the final," Cricbuzz’s reports further added.
ICC playing conditions’ clause 6.4 meant that the umpires could call for a pitch change.
“Throughout the decision-making processes mentioned above, the ICC match referee will keep both captains and the head of the ground authority informed. The head of the ground authority will ensure appropriate and timely public announcements are made,” read 6.4.7 of the playing condition.
