Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan believes that his side won a good toss but, on the day, were let down by their execution with the ball in hand.
Bangladesh put England into bat on a very true Dharamshala surface but, after a tight start (15/0 in 4 overs), let the Three Lions’ openers get away and score freely. A 10-run fifth over from Mustafizur Rahman had England up and running and, from there, the Three Lions did not look back as they went on to post 364/9.
“It was a good toss to win, there was some rain last night. There was some help for the faster bowlers but we didn't start well,” Shakib said after the match.
“When you give them a sniff, they will always come at us strongly. We did well in the last 10 overs but it will always be tough to chase 350. We planned well, but we couldn't execute.”
Shakib felt that his side ended up conceding 40 runs too many. In the end, the Tigers felt short by 137 runs.
“The ball was swinging nicely, needed to put in the right areas and build momentum. Once they got the momentum it was tough to contain them. I think the position they were in, they could have scored 380-390, we restricted them well. But I think 320 would have been a good total to chase here,” Shakib said.
The format of this World Cup is such that there’s margin for error, and so with 2 points from 2 games, Bangladesh are very much in contention for the semis. Shakib insisted that it’ll be important for his side to take it ‘one game at a time’.
“We have to move on and we have some tough matches coming up. We cannot be bogged down. We have to move on, keep doing the right things and take it one game at a time,” Shakib said.
Bangladesh next take on New Zealand at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 13th.
