I’d absolutely love to be there: Ellyse Perry sets sights on 2028 Olympics
Cricket is set to be part of the Olympic games in Los Angeles after a 128-year absence
Star Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry has not ruled out the possibility of representing her country at the 2028 Olympic games in Los Angeles. Perry, who has won every single trophy in her legendary Australia career, will be 37 when the Olympics come around, but she says she is keen to play if she remains fit.
Perry was part of the Australian squad that won the Commonwealth Games gold in Birmingham 2022 but did not get a game as she was recovering from a back injury. “I don’t think I’m the kind of person that wants to pin a date on a retirement. I’ve never looked at it like that,” Perry told BBC Sport
“If I’m still there and available and good enough, I’d like to be there.”
Perry, who is currently leading the Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred that cricket's inclusion in the Olympics would go a long way in growing the game. “I haven’t set a target on playing at the Olympics, but if I’m still around and good enough, I’d absolutely love to be there,” the all-rounder said
“It’s an awesome thing for the game and an amazing opportunity to continue to grow it.”
Perry has had her share of injuries in recent years. In fact, she was due to lead the Phoenix last season but was forced out due to a knee injury. Phoenix failed to win a game in her absence, and even in the ongoing season, Perry's side have tasted defeats at the hands of London Spirit and Oval Invincibles.
She will hope to get off the mark in the tournament when the Edgbaston side take on Trent Rockets in Nottingham on July 31 (Wednesday).
