If Kohli can lift 150-250kg dumbbells, doesn't mean Rohit should do the same: Kapil Dev

Former World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev applauded the Mumbaikar for understanding his own limitations and playing within themselves

Virat Kohli steered a fitness revolution in Indian cricket. When he took over as captain, other players started to focus more on physical fitness, which in turn ensured a rise in endurance. However, current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma remains an anomaly, whose skill level supersedes his stamina or ability to work out in the gym.

Former World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev applauded the Mumbaikar for understanding his own limitations and playing within themselves.

"If Virat Kohli can lift 150 kg and 250kg dumbbells, that doesn't mean Rohit should do the same. It seems like Rohit knows his game very well. He plays within himself,” Kapil said on an ABP News show.

“He is not like Virat Kohli and doesn't jump around. Rohit is aware of his limitations and there is no one better than him in that respect, not even Virat. Rohit has one pack and that is enough to hit big sixes," the 65-year-old added.

Kapil Dev further added that Rohit Sharma keeps the entire team happy. "Many big players come, but they come for themselves, even do captaincy for themselves, but Rohit gets one extra tick in the box because he keeps the entire team happy," said the 1983 World Cup-winning India captain.

Rohit Sharma, who led India in the 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 Cricket World Cup, will have a shot at glory as India are set to take on England in the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 28 (Thursday).
