On Wednesday (August 7), the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced that Ihsanullah Janat, who last played in 2022, has been banned for five years for ‘involvement in corrupt activities’.
The batter was found violating ACB's and ICC's anti-corruption code during the second edition of the Kabul Premier League (KPL), which began in 2024. "Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match," the ACB said in a statement.
"In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities. Janat has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities,” it further added.
Not just that, the ACB’s anti-corruption unit is also investigating “three other players” for possible involvement in corrupt activites. The 26-year-old top-order batter, who represented Shamshad Eagles in the KPL, scored 72 runs as his side finished last.
Ironically, Ihsanullah is the brother of Nawroz Mangal, Afghanistan’s stalwart and a key figure in the country's iconic cricket revolution.
