The International League T20 (ILT20) won’t be clashing with the SA20 competition, which ensured that the tournament has now reduced the total salary cap for each team by 20%.
Earlier, the wage cap for each team was US$2.5 million in the first three editions of the league, but that has now been trimmed to US$2 million.
ESPNCricinfo reported that the decision had been taken after the ILT20 announced that the event will take place from December 2 until January 4 for the next edition, thus only clashing with SA20 for a brief while. That would free up the player availability calendar and hence, teams can do with a slightly lesser pay.
The league is also moving to an auction model for the first time after directly signing players for the first three seasons. The auction will take place in September and teams will be given a retention timeline to hold on to their interested players. Teams will still be given an additional US$250,000 for wildcard signings.
