Former Australian pacer John Hastings had a day to forget when he bowled 18 balls in an over, and the funny part was that he did not even complete the over. He bowled just five legal deliveries in the over and conceded 20 runs.
The sequence of his over read: Wide, Wide, Wide, Wide, Wide, 1, 4, NB, Wide, LB, Wide, 0, 1, Wide, Wide, Wide, Wide, Wide.
The over he bowled was in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 against the Pakistan Champions. Australia Champions were bowled out for just 74 in that match, and when Hastings came on to bowl, Pakistan needed just 20 more to win from 13 overs.
Pakistan needed just five legal deliveries to register a 10-wicket victory with 73 balls to spare.
Hastings, who bowled four wides and a no-ball in the previous match against South Africa Champions, one of which did not even hit the pitch, after which a few anti-corruption officials approached him to verify if there was any foul play
"The anti-corruption guys came up to me and said, 'gee you put us through a bit of hell last night.' He said we had to have a look at it. You missed the pitch on one of your balls. I said, 'Do you think I'll be doing any sort of match-fixing or anything like that?," Hastings said on Willow Talk Podcast.
"He said no, but we don't know where you've been or what you've been doing for the last seven years. I said, I'm not corrupt. The Pakistan game, it's hard to explain. I had so many text messages from all the cricket fraternity, but I had also deleted social media for three days straightaway when I came off the field after the Pakistan game. I didn't want to deal with it.
"It's not funny, but it's one of those you can't explain when you're actually bowling. It was hard to take, it was embarrassing, and it was horrendous. But I am back on social media. So, the 1.5 million people who messaged me on Instagram, I'll reply to you when I can."
Hastings also revealed that he had an "official retirement party" after the game against Pakistan.
Hastings last played for Australia in 2017, accumulating a total of one Test, 29 ODIs and nine T20Is, picking up exactly 50 wickets. He played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League, picking up three wickets at an economy rate of 5.55.
