Imad Wasim announces retirement from international cricket

The 34-year old all-rounder represented Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is

The 34-year old Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has announced his retirement from international cricket. A left-arm spinner and a left-handed lower middle-order batter, Wasim represented Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20I matches between 2015 and 2023. He last featured for Pakistan in April 2023, playing the last of his eight T20Is this year. In ODIs, Wasim last played in 2020.

The southpaw announced his retirement on the social media platform X, thanking his friends, fans and family in a post.

Wasim scored 1472 runs for Pakistan across his 121 limited-overs appearances for Pakistan and picked 109 wickets. He was more of an economical bowler, going at only 4.9 runs per over in ODIs and 6.3 runs per over in T20 cricket.

Born in Wales, Wasim was part of the Pakistan team that won the Champions Trophy in 2017. He also won the U19 World Cup in Pakistan’s colors in 2006. He also featured in the 2019 World Cup but was irregular in the side ever since.

Of late, there have been talks of Wasim’s comeback in the Pakistan setup, courtesy of Mohammad Nawaz’s lackluster form and Wasim himself making waves playing T20 cricket around the globe. However, all those talks have been put to rest with this announcement from Wasim.

As stated in his post, Wasim will continue playing cricket but away from the international circuit. He was last seen playing for the Jamaica Tallawahs in 2023 edition of the Caribbean Premier League in September. With 313 runs to his name, the left-hander was the third-highest run-scorer of the competition and the highest scorer for his team, speaking for his form of late.
