Ahead of Rajasthan Royals' (RR) opening clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Monday (April 12), skipper Sanju Samson said that his side will look for a bit of stability in the opening department after they tried five different combinations last seasons. Ben Stokes is most likely to retain his position at the top. RR have the likes of Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal and also Samson himself who could open with him.
Regardless of the opening combination, Samson feels that it is important to give the payers enough time. "Sanga (Kumar Sangakkara) and I will be trying to give the best combination for the team. From my point of view, it is crucial to give an individual or opening partners enough time in the tournament. So, a bit of stability will be seen in the tournament and the rest is dependent upon how we go ahead," Samson said in a virtual press conference on Sunday (April 11).
Speaking of the team's approach, Samson revealed nothing has changed but it will eventually boil down to trusting your game and expressing yourself when given an opportunity. However, Samson said his side will not back away from their attacking style of play.
"This format demands that kind of attitude. We like to believe that everyone is thinking with the almost same mindset so the players' mindset is almost the same to go out and play some good cricket and enjoy their fearless attitude. That is what we stick to and that is what this tournament demands. So, we keep it that way," the new RR captain added.
