Indian captain Rohit Sharma was happy that most of the players called up for the Sri Lanka series gained form and fulfilled their roles to perfection. India registered another T20I series cleansweep by beating Sri Lanka by six wickets in the third match at Dharamsala on Sunday.
Shreyas Iyer scored three consecutive unbeaten fifties while Ravindra Jadeja, Sanju Samson and Harshal Patel all produced convincing performances throughout the series.
"We played together and we played very well. A lot of positives from this series. That is something we've kept in mind - good to give opportunities to few of those guys," Rohit said in the post-match presentation.
India were without KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Deepak Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel for the series while Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad were sidelined during the series. Rohit backed the team management's idea to rotate the squad and rest few with the 2022 T20 World Cup in mind.
"We do understand at times that we've held back but it's important to tell the guys that you don't have to worry about your positions in the team. We want to fill whatever gaps we have and we do have," he said.
Shreyas, who scored 57, 74 and 73 and remained not out throughout the three matches, was happy that he has been able to put the frustration of a recurring shoulder injury behind him.
"To be honest, you require just one ball to get in form. I'm really happy with whatever opportunities I got this series," the 27-year old said.
After being sidelined for majority of last year, Shreyas made a strong comeback as he made his Test debut against New Zealand and scored crucial runs in the series against West Indies and Sri Lanka.
"You just have to back your instincts and be positive. It has been a roller-coaster journey for me from injury. To come out of injury and perform at this level is really heartening for me," he said.
Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka felt that his team was unable to adapt to the conditions. However, he was happy with the performances of the pacers in the series.
"Without some senior bowlers, it has been tough. We should've adapted to the conditions. Adapting to the conditions and situations wherever we go is a concern. The pace attack has been good throughout the last year,"
With his team struggling at 60/5, Shanaka scored a brilliant 74 not out from 38 balls to take the score to 148/4 in 20 overs.
"I'm very much happy about my form. This is international cricket and we can't complain about the conditions," he added.
