Inaugural Season Of European T20 League Jointly Owned By 3 Countries Postponed

The league, sanctioned by the ICC, is promoted by Bollywood actor and sports enthusiast Abhishek Bachchan.

The much-anticipated inaugural edition of the European Premier T20 League, a joint venture between Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland and the Royal Netherlands Cricket Board, has been postponed for a year, and now will not start as expected in 2025.

"The decision comes after extensive consultation with key stakeholders across cricket, business and media," the league was quoted as saying in a statement by Cricbuzz.

The league was supposed to take place in July-August and was to be played across six cities, which were also the home venues of the six teams in the league, which have been backed by Bollywood actor and sports enthusiast Abhishek Bachchan.

"The initial 2025 window envisioned for the tournament provided a solid basis, but conversations with franchise aspirants, broadcasters, sponsors, and governing bodies made it clear: 2026 gives ETPL the tournament the best chance to succeed," the statement added.

The teams, according to several media reports, were supposed to belong to two cities in each country i.e.- Dublin and Belfast in Ireland, Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland and Amsterdam and Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

The league has already been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will now begin in 2026.
