Rain continues to play spoilsport in the second Test between India and Bangladesh as Day 2 of the Kanpur Test has been washed out without a single ball being bowled.
After only 35 overs were bowled on Day 1, the second day was supposed to start 30 minutes early, at 9.00 AM IST, to make up for lost time. However, heavy early morning rains delayed the start and forced the officials to write off the first session entirely.
After that, a mixture of heavy showers and continuous drizzling meant that there was no possibility whatsoever of play starting. Play was officially called off just after 2.00 PM IST.
A draw looks more and more likely as the weather is not great for Day 3 either. Heavy rains are expected on Sunday, with there also being an alert for thunderstorms in Kanpur. The good news is that the forecast is clear for the final two days of the Test.
As it stands, Bangladesh are 107/3, with Mominul Haque (40*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6*) batting. The Tigers were inserted into bat on Day 1 by India, who for the first time in nine years opted to bowl in a home Test after winning the toss.
