IND vs AUS: Bad weather and incessant rain force a draw at Gabba

The series remains tied at 1-1 after three matches

After a bold declaration at 89/7d and setting India a target of 275, bad light, bad weather and incessant rain had the last laugh at the Gabba, as the two teams were forced into a draw. Rain was always on the forecast on day four and five of the third Test in Brisbane but the home side dangled the carrot in an attempt to prize out a game.

With India 8/0 in their second dig, the umpires deemed the light too futile to continue the Test, forcing the determined Australian bowlers off the field. It forced the two umpires to take an early tea break, hoping the conditions would improve. But as it turned out, the dark clouds turned into a heavy rain, and the two teams could only hope for a change.

Their hope fell on deaf ears as rain had the last laugh, forcing the two teams to shake ends and agree on a draw, with the series tied at 1-1. India were victors in the opening Test at Perth before Australia made a strong comeback at Adelaide, setting up the series so perfectly.

Australia would be without Josh Hazlewood, who was ruled out of the series with another bout of side strain, as Scott Boland is expected to slot in seamlessly at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the fourth Test.
